The Electrical Contractors’ Association of City of Chicago (ECA) resumed its Regular Membership Meeting schedule. The most recent meeting was held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at the Drake Oak Brook Hotel in Oak Brook, Illinois. Highlights of the session included Code updates, as well as a presentation from Dr. John Donahue, IBEW – NECA Technical Institute (INTECH) Director and Mr. John Prendergast, INTECH instructor / administrator regarding the Apprentice Program and the school building project. In regard to the Chicago Electric Code, efforts with updating the City of Chicago Electric Code came to fruition as a new Ordinance was recently passed that will officially enact the new code in March 2018. The Association thanks the efforts of the ECA Codes and Standards Committee working with the Chicago Electric Commission, the Chicago Department of Buildings, Harry Ohde, former INTECH Instructor, among others. Dr. Donahue gave updates regarding the apprentice program, as well as trainee program updates. Mr. Prendergast gave a brief report concerning the progress of the INTECH building renovation and school addition. It is anticipated that the two phases of the project will be completed by mid-Summer 2018. Both presenters were met with a round of applause after the Q & A session. We thank them for their contribution to the success of the meeting.
