NECA President David Long recently visited the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Smart Tech Lab.  He was interviewed for an upcoming video created by NECA highlighting activity in the Chicago area unique to the industry.  An excerpt from a Smart Tech Lab press release describes the lab, “The NECA IIT Chapter students, working with the Chicago & Cook County Chapter, NECA / Electrical Contractors’ Association of City of Chicago (ECA), university, and NECA electrical contractor companies have seen the Smart Tech Lab become a reality.  Located on the main campus of the Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech), this innovative and exciting lab is one of the first of its kind offering NECA chapter students a place to hold their chapter meetings and NECA industry events and workshops, conduct energy audit analyses, and learn and research opportunities in electrical building automation, embedded systems, energy efficiency and green energy sustainability. It is truly a testament of the NECA electrical industry and students working together to create this outstanding facility. The Smart Tech Lab was developed by the work of the NECA IIT advisor, Dr. Dan Tomal, students, and ECA with virtually all donations from ECA contractor members estimated to be over $100, 000.  The NECA IIT Student Chapter was actively involved in all phases of the development of the lab including the initial design and working with ECA, local IBEW 134, an architecture design firm, and the university facilities department.”  (Please CLICK HERE FOR FULL ARTICLE ON SMART TECH LAB).
