The speakers for the program are: Ms. Karen Rioux, Partner, McGann, Ketterman & Rioux and William Heffernan, Co-founder, Employee Resource Systems, Inc. The presentations are to include discussion of the Illinois Workplace Transparency Act concerning employer obligations for Sexual Harassment Prevention Training and Reasonable Suspicion implementation including impact of the new Illinois Recreational Marijuana Law.   The program is complimentary for NECA members!

This course is geared for contractors and personnel in supervisory roles and provides an overview of compliance with the updated Illinois Workplace Transparency Law - a focus on Sexual Harassment Training parameters and an overview of Reasonable Suspicion follow-up concerning the new Recreational Marijuana Law in Illinois.

Following this class, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what it takes to comply with the annual requirement of Sexual Harassment
    Prevention training component of the Illinois Workplace Transparency Law.

  • Be familiar with the specific elements for compliance and how to report employer and
    employee training completion requirements / overall regulatory compliance.

  • Discuss the signs and symptoms of impairment.

  • Discuss potential impact of new Recreational Marijuana Law.

  • Explain the supervisor’s responsibility to maintain zero-tolerance on jobsite to maintain
    worker and customer safety.

Karen Rioux is a partner at McGann, Ketterman & Rioux where she focuses her practice on Labor and Employment Law, Civil Rights Law, and Employee Benefits Law. Ms. Rioux earned her Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2002, where she participated in the Labor and Employment Certificate Program and earned the CALI award for her work in Collective Bargaining and Arbitration.

William Heffernan,
Co-founder Employee Resource Systems, Inc.

William Heffernan co-founded Employee Resource Systems, Inc. (ERS), a service-driven, high-touch employee assistance program (EAP) provider. Mr. Heffernan served as chairperson for the Chicagoland Chamber’s Drug-Free Workplace Taskforce and as board member and president for the Northern Illinois Employee Assistance Professionals Association (NIEAPA), where he was named 1999 Employee Assistance Professional of the Year. He served as chairperson for Community Health Charities of Illinois and was named Volunteer of the Year by Community Health Charities of America (CHC) for his demonstrated leadership, commitment, volunteer excellence and significant contributions to the CHC mission. Mr. Heffernan was also elected to the National Board of Community Health Charities of America and served on the Executive Committee as Vice Chair and Secretary. Mr. Heffernan is a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) and a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP).
