ECA October Membership Meeting Highlights

The Electrical Contractors' Association of City of Chicago (ECA) held its October Membership Meeting on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Smith & Wollensky's in Chicago.  The program featured legislative updates from James Farrell, NECA Government Affairs Manager and Jessica Newbold, IMSCA Executive Director.

Mr. Steve Diamond, NECA PLC member, Malko Communication Services, LLC introduced Mr. James Farrell, NECA Government Affairs Manager.  Mr. Farrell gave a national legislative update which included discussion of various topics, including the following:  Tax Reform 2.0, Apprenticeship (520 options), Cadillac Tax delay, Pension Reform (Grow Act), Change Orders, Infrastructure, President Trump’s speech during the recent NECA Convention, insight on mid-term elections, urged all to participate with the NECAPAC.  He also encouraged all to attend the NECA Legislative Conference to beheld May 1 - 3, 2019 in Washington, D.C. and to spread the word for the Next Gen. Legislative program for September 2019.  After his presentation, he was met with a round of applause.

Mr. James McGlynn, ECA Legislative Committee Chairman, McWilliams Electric Company, Inc. introduced Ms. Jessica Newbold, IMSCA Executive Director.  Ms. Newbold gave an Illinois General Assembly legislative update which included discussion of various topics, including the following:  review of SB3052 regarding Retainage Reform, the importance of grassroots efforts concerning informing legislators about subcontractor issues, increased political action for 2019.  Ms. Newbold thanked all who were instrumental in passage of SB3052 concerning Retainage Reform.  The bill will be re-introduced in 2019. After her presentation, she was also met with a round of applause.
