Workplace Violence: Are You Prepared?" Seminar

The ECA Research and Education Committee in conjunction with other area Trade Associations held a seminar called, “Workplace Violence:  Are You Prepared?”  The program was held on October 24, 2018 at Maggiano’s Banquets in Schaumburg, in Oak Brook, IL.  The groups involved with the program, include:  Electrical Contractors’ Association of City of Chicago (ECA), Mechanical Contractors Association (MCA), Northeastern Illinois Chapter, NECA, Plumbing Council, Plumbing Contractors Association and the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ Association (SMACNA).  The session focused on a number of areas, including:  Contractor’s responsibilities with OSHA obligations, negligent hire/retention claims and public relations concerns, prevention methods including stronger employee policies, assessing the workplace, safety planning – employee GPS, establishing identification badges, electronic keys, security guards to minimize non-employee access, among other areas.  The presenters were Amber Cox, Laner Muchin, Kyle Cochran, CSP, Vista Safety Consulting, LLC and Dan Skoczylas, CLS Background Investigations / Makton Investigations.  The next anticipated joint association program is being arranged for late Spring 2019.
