Program description:
Developed to discuss all phases of the estimating process, this course covers all phases of preparing a competitive bid. Key topics include identifying desirable bid opportunities, analyzing the company's capabilities to insure profitable results, the estimator’s role at various stages of the project, writing an effective scope letter and identifying often hidden costs in the bid documents.
Following this course, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the steps necessary to prepare a competitive bid
- Identify the most desirable bid opportunities
- Describe how a company’s capabilities can be analyzed to insure profits
- Discuss cash flow and bonding
- Discuss relevant contract terms
- Identify price adjustment techniques, overhead, and profit
- List the documents required to estimate a construction project

Fee for the sessions is $200.00 per ECA member.

Glenn G. De Soto is the Principal of GGD Associates, LLC, a construction consulting firm. Glenn is a former IBEW/NECA contractor who has over 35 years of experience in the electrical construction industry, from apprentice to contractor. Glenn is a former director on the Board of Directors of the Southern Sierra’s Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and former committee member of the IBEW/NECA Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee of Riverside County, California. He is also a card-carrying member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He serves as a member of the NECA Manual of Labor Units Committee Task-force and has served on various industry committees throughout his career. He has worked on various projects across the United States, which has given him a broad vantage point of the construction industry, which in turn has been a great educational tool for him.
